Use Hardwood Floor Wax to Restore the Shine

Rob Buenaventura

Does your hardwood floor have a wax or a urethane finish to it? It is important to know what type of finish your hardwood floor has because you will need to condition and clean your floor regularly. If you use a hardwood floor wax you will have different care guidelines than for other floors. Hardwood floor wax is not as popular anymore as many pre-finished floors and floors that are installed in new homes are using urethane to finish them.

If you do use hardwood floor wax on your floor it is an easy floor to clean when needed. General cleaning should include regular sweeping and vacuuming. You may need to buff the floor occasionally to restore it to its original shine. You may want to invest in a floor buffer if you spend a lot of time on your hardwood floor. When buffing does not return your floor to its original shine, you will need to rewax it. Using a liquid wax spread it evenly and then buff to a shine. It is a simple process and will result in a beautiful floor.

When you use a hardwood floor wax on your hardwood flooring you will need to treat stains differently. Depending on the stain you should be able to use a fine steel wool that has been dampened in wax to lightly remove the stain. If you take proper care of your floor, it may only need to be waxed once or twice a year in order to keep it looking beautiful.
